Bournemouth beat Brighton for the second time in five days as Joshua King’s extra-time goal sent the Cherries into the Carabao Cup fourth round.Eddie Howe’s side beat the Seagulls 2-1 in the Premier League on Friday. Both sides made changes from that game and struggled to break each other down, although Bournemouth’s Junior Stanislas hit the bar in the first half.

But King finished off a neat exchange with Marc Pugh for the winner.Brighton’s record signing Jose Izquierdo was one of those to come into Chris Hughton’s side for this game and had his best chance before the break, firing narrowly wide.Bournemouth forward Jordon Ibe, who started the game after providing two assists on Friday, caused the Seagulls plenty of problems once again and was unlucky after a 20-yard run ended with Benik Afobe just failing to connect with his cross in the second half. The Cherries have now reached the League Cup fourth round in three of their past four campaigns.Line-upsMatch StatsLive TextLine-upsBournemouth1BorucBooked at 120mins24FraserSubstituted forHyndmanat 116’minutes2Francis3S Cook14B Smith19StanislasSubstituted forPughat 63’minutes16L Cook4Gosling33IbeSubstituted forA Smithat 103’minutes31MoussetSubstituted forKingat 79’minutes9AfobeSubstitutes7Pugh12Ramsdale15A Smith17King22Hyndman23MahoneyBrighton26Krul18Goldson4Hünemeier23RoseniorSubstituted forMatejuat 109’minutes21SchelottoSubstituted forPröpperat 105’minutes47Hutchinson49Molumby3Bong8SkalakBooked at 95minsSubstituted forMarchat 104’minutes15Murphy19Izquierdo MenaSubstituted forKnockaertat 104’minutesSubstitutes5Dunk11Knockaert12Mäenpää20March24Pröpper38Mateju70TilleyReferee:Kevin FriendAttendance:10,372Match StatsHome TeamBournemouthAway TeamBrightonPossessionHome42%Away58%ShotsHome29Away8Shots on TargetHome9Away3CornersHome14Away5FoulsHome10Away11Live TextSubstitutionPosted at 1′ Substitution, Bournemouth.
